Farvash
MAGU

MAGU is an installation and group exhibition bringing together artists from the collectives Sp0re and Diaspora Now. Farvash invited artists whose practices engage with magic, ritual, altered states, and embodied or ancestral forms of knowledge, bringing them together through the idea of the contemporary Magu.
The exhibition brings together sculpture, moving image and a magical network across the space. During the installation, Farvash began writing automatically across the black walls, repeating and rearranging words and phrases in Farsi. Among them were:
در به در دل
درد و دل
دل به دل
The writing plays between dar (در), door; dard (درد), pain; and del (دل), a word that can mean heart but, for Farvash, also carries gut, inner feeling and intention. The words are repeated, exchanged and rearranged — knocking door to door, searching for a door, searching for del, speaking heart to heart, pain to heart, speaking to a door. The wordplay moves across the walls and around a hand-embroidered glass-bead door, gradually becoming a blessing and a portal into HĀL / حال one floor below.
After the performance, objects from HĀL were brought back into MAGU, creating a physical bond between the two works.
Participating artists:
Collective Sp0re: 001184, Col Self, Mohammed Rowe, Farvash,
Collective Diaspora Now: Joshua Woolford, Paola Estrella and Rieko Whitfield.
